In some areas Muslims also exchange gifts as well. On these occasions sweets and drinks are also distributed widely from home to home, and to the general public as well. In many countries a procession is also conducted on 12th or 17th of Rabiul Awal night and day. Muslims generally put coloured lights on roads streets and their homes and put green flags as well to celebrate.
In some areas celebrations begin as early as the first of the month and can continue till the end of the month. The celebration of the Mawlid is done differently depending on the country. The name Rabī‘ al-awwal means the first month beginning of spring, referring to its position in the pre-Islamic Arabian calendar before the practice of intercalation was abolished. Sunni Muslims believe the exact date of birth of Muhammad to have been on the twelfth of this month, whereas Shi'a Muslims believe him to have been born on the dawn of the seventeenth day. During this month, Muslims around the world celebrate Mawlid - the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The very same year, in the month of October, he was appointed as the Nigran of the Markazi Majlis-e- Shura of Dawat-e-Islami.Rabi' al-awwal is the third month in the Islamic calendar. Allah blessed him with higher ranks and in Year 2000 he was appointed as the Nigran of Babul Madinah Karachi, with the approval of all the Nigrans of Karachi. He was also an excellent preacher, and had a tremendous enthusiasm for Madani work. He would often recite Naat in large Congregations, overwhelming the devotees of Rasul.
Haji Mushtaq Qadri became Nigran of ShuraĪllah had blessed Haji Mushtaq Qadri with a very pleasant voice. Inspired, I joined the Madani environment of Dawat-e-Islami. Making individual effort, he managed to make me meet you (Ilyas Qadri). I was impressed by the courteous and polite manner in which he had greeted me. As I was leaving, a bearded and turbaned Islamic brother approached me and shook hands with me warmly. He reported, ‘When I attended Dawat-e-Islami’s Sunnah-Inspiring weekly Ijtima’ for the first time at its first Madani Markaz, Gulzar-e-Habib Masjid, I began to leave at the end of the Ijtima’, like other brothers. He himself narrated to Hazrat Molana Ilyas Qadri as to how he joined Dawat-e-Islami’s Madani environment. He had a beard and was a Naat reciter with a very pleasant voice. Haji Mushtaq Qadri was a religious-minded person even before joining Dawat-e-Islami’s Madani environment.
